Thick and Thin Questions

Yesterday's lesson was on thick and thin questions. Because (as teams) we are brainstorming concept questions, we had to learn about what it takes to be a good question (thick) and a not so important/easy question (thin). Here is a list that we came up with about the difference between thick and thin questions and what a thick question means and what a thin question means.

Thick Question:

  • Makes you think deeply
  • Can write up to a paragraph for an answer
  • May allow follow up questions
  • Opinion Questions
  • Questions that can spend up lots of time answering

Thin Questions:

  • Could be a yes or no question
  • Could be a question that only takes a max of 2 minutes to answer
  • Not relevant questions (sometimes)
  • Questions that don't make sense (sometimes)
