PYPX Team Building Activities (In groups)

13/03/17                                                                                                                                                        Today during our Exhibition work period, we had another mini team building activities in our groups that we were going to do Exhibition with. Our task...
Create the tallest tower you can build! But..... you can't touch the paper or ANY OF THE CUPS (or restart). You can use only a rubber band, strings and your brain to build the tallest tower possible.
First, Lina, Sussie and I decided that I would pick up the cups with a rubber band, Sussie would move the sups with a string and Lina would take off the rubber band/string with another piece of string. It was working at first, but then we were all very good communicators and reflectors that Lina's idea worked better which was I would pick up the cup with a string, while Sussie moved the string with a rubber band while Lina moved the cups with another string. IT WORKED!! Here are some pictures of our activity:

To be successful in this activity, our groups had to be a communicator, we all had to cooperate as a team and be independent by doing what we're each supposed to do, we also had to be respectful by respecting other's strategies/plans/ideas of how to finish the task. I think our team struggled with when something happened that was funny, we'd all laugh and sometimes we'd drop our resources sometimes, so we (as a team) need to work on staying on task and avoiding distractions.

14/03/17
Today we had another team building activity down in the South Cafeteria Faculty Dining Room. Today's activity was called The Rope Challenge. The rope challenge is where our combined teams each (per person) gets 2 seconds to finish the challenge. We had 9 people in my team, so we had 18 seconds in total to finish the task. Every time someone touched the tied rope, it would count as one trial. Our big team all started with 5 trials. Our first attempt, we tried just each individually pulling the rope over ourselves, but that didn't work. We only got 4 people done in 18 seconds! Then Esenia had an idea where we stood in a line and pass the rope over our heads and down. But that didn't work either. Then I suggested we'd all line up and one person held up ad spread the rope as wide as possible to the ground and we'd each crawl through he rope. It didn't work the first time, but we were SO close that we tried it another time and IT WORKED! Then we did the challenge a second time with the whole class using my idea. It didn't work the first time, but worked the second time!!

From this activity, I learned about being...
- Reflective
- Cooperation
- Using Independence
- Creativity

1- We all had to be reflective and reflect on the previous trials and so that way we can change the way we do the next trial based off of the knowledge of reflecting on our last trial so that way we can be more successful and complete the challenge.
2- I learned that in order to successfully complete something, you have to cooperate and work as a team so that way we can all communicate our ideas and if we work together we can all understand/know what to do and what not to do.
3- It may sound weird that we have to be cooperative and be independent, but in order to cooperate, we have to be independent and do our part of finishing the challenge like doing our part in holding the rope or crawling or videoing.
4- Also, in order to get/find good ideas, we all have to use or imagination and be creative to create/find ways to finish something and not just copy others and think only about logic. We have to go beyond our comfort zone and be creative.
