Board/Final Presentation- Reflection #2

I think that my team and I put together a wonderful board! It showed our learning, process, growth, unit plan, research and primary research! We even added on world language components, interactive components and a performance times list. These were our interactive components:
  • Building a Building Activity (they use 10 special blocks to build a building and then quizzed on their process and what they had to think about while designing the building) This activity helped the audience experience the design process and what designers have to think about and do while designing something.
  • Design a Room Activity (they use cardboard cutouts to design a mini bedroom in a basket and then reflect on process and what types of design they used) This activity helped the audience learn about the thinking behind the design process and how different actions in design can connect to other forms of design.
  • Russian CrossWord (people who are Russian were able to do a cool crossword puzzle made by Sussie about design) This activity helped the audience understand what design is and it's importance (which are what the words are related to in the crossword)

How I feel- End of Exhibition Reflection #1

(Metaphor)

At the end of Exhibition, I feel like a huge soccer match just ended. Throughout a soccer match, you are sometimes on a position called attack. Attack is the main position when you try to score. I feel like this position is like having the feeling of being the leader in my Exhibition group. Sometimes I'm defense, when I let the attack positioners take control as I'm backup and help out. Also, sometimes in soccer, you get hit by the ball, and that's just like being given (hit with) a new Exhibition assignment. Then, before the official ending, we all shake hands and say "good game", so that's like when we SHARE our learning with others.

I think that Exhibition has been a good experience for me and my teammates, because this great project has taught us (of course) about our passion, design, and also about what it is to be a team member, and how to cooperate together. We have all been able to experience ALL of the learner attributes, attitudes and transdisciplinary skills throughout the unit. I feel like our team was very cooperative, caring, hard working, and staying on task.

This was such a great experience and I hope that the future 5th graders will love Exhibition as much as I have!!!

Mentor Meeting- April 19th

Today on April 19th, we had our second mentor meeting of the week in addition to our Monday mentor meeting, and then another meeting with Mister Hinton tomorrow. Today's objectives were:
  • Confirming Action and starting to draft a plan
  • How will we present our inquiry process, knowledge, growth and action?
  • Skit- How, when, why discussion
Here is our notes, objectives, and info:

The highlight of the meeting was when LMDSA got the support and encouragement of Mr. Hinton to finalize and confirm our action plan. We are going to do our number one idea, "Playground Equipment". When, we survey kids about which equipment they least enjoy, and then re- design it so more people will feel safe and they would enjoy that piece of equipment better.
We could do better on making sure that our mentor meeting to-dos are clear, because we had a small mix-up with another team member who didn't clearly understand what one of our to-dos were, and as a result of that, she didn't do one of our crucial assignments that will help support our ending presentation.
